Group Urges Tinubu To Disregard Calls For Sack Of Police IG
The Northern Youth Association of Nigeria has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to disregard any calls for the removal of Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and instead order full-scale investigations into allegations of corruption in the recruitment process.
Speaking to journalists in Bauchi, the group’s President, Comrade Godiya T Adams, stated that the call to sack the IGP was unnecessary and selfish.
“Permit me to thank you all, members of the press present at this briefing; I applaud your sagacity in ensuring that the correct information is communicated to the public,” he said.
“In recent days, our attention has been drawn to reports that a group of unpatriotic and disgruntled individuals has asked President Tinubu to fire the IGP.
“We want to state unequivocally, without fear or favour, that such actions are not only malicious, but also selfish and self-centred, and we are hereby calling on our father, the President and Commander in Chief, to disregard such actions and even call such individuals to order, as their actions undermine the IGP’s efforts to bring the Nigerian Police to global reckoning.”
“We are very much aware of the irregularities and corruptions perpetrated by these elements of retrogressive character in the conduct of the recruitment processes of citizens into the Nigerian Police, and the only crime of the IGP was to reject such fouled processes. As Nigerians, we want to assure the IGP that we are solidly behind him on this because things must be done properly.”
“There have been positive developments with the Nigerian Police under the leadership of IGP Kayode Egbetokun, and Nigerians are pleased with how the police have carried out their duties.”
“We urge the IGP to remain focused on giving Nigerians the best police/citizens relationship, as these individuals might stop at nothing to tarnish his hard reputation as a police chief with impeccable antecedents.”
“We urge Mr. President to appoint an investigation panel to thoroughly investigate the allegations of misconduct and corruption that have marred the recruitment process and bring defaulters to justice.
“We cannot sit back and let a few selfish people dash our renewed hope. Nigeria is on track to greatness under President Tinubu, and we will not allow anyone or any group to stymie such progress; our voices will always be heard.” the group stated.
