As part of the preparations for the first anniversary of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration in Delta State, Mr Charles Aniagwu, Commissioner for Works, Rural and Riverine Roads, inspected the Okpanam/Ibusa and theagu/Ewulu roads, which are set to be inaugurated.

The roads, which spanned 5.3 kilometres and 9.1 kilometres, respectively, and were roughly 90% completed, connect major towns and improve the socioeconomic lives of the locals.

Speaking to journalists after inspecting the roads on Tuesday, Aniagwu expressed satisfaction with the projects’ progress and directed the contractors to expedite the completion and prioritise the installation of road markings and other essentials in preparation for the inauguration.

He reiterated the governor’s commitment to delivering quality projects to Deltans by the MORE Agenda.

The Works Commissioner, flanked by the functional Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Engr. Juliet Aboloje, and the contractor, stated, “Governor Oborevwori has outlined numerous projects and programmes to mark his one-year in office.

“Aside from roads, there are other projects and programmes, such as empowerment initiatives spearheaded by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Girl Child, among other ministries.

“The governor has directed us to ensure that all roads are in top condition before he commissions them. Even if contractors claim that the roads have been completed, he wants us to ensure that they were built to specifications.

“We hope that within the next few days, they will finish the project and leave the site so that we can conduct the final inspection.

“That is the same approach the governor wants us to take on all projects. He does not just want to commission projects; he wants to ensure that any road being commissioned meets specifications and adds value to Delta residents by ensuring that the money paid is equal to the work done.
