Oborevwori Directs NIPSS To Address Nigeria’s Challenges
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has directed the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru-Jos to develop a comprehensive policy roadmap to address Nigeria’s current challenges.
Governor Oborevwori delivered the charge on Tuesday during a courtesy call at Government House in Asaba to participants in the NIPSS Senior Executive Course 46, led by Air Vice Marshal David Solomon.
He stated, “The importance of your institute is rooted in fostering critical thinking, which will encourage the training and development of professionals in policy analysis, strategic planning, and leadership.
“As a high-level centre for informed research, reflection, and dialogue, the country expects you to provide a road map for true policy initiatives and implementation.
“The Institute remains our country’s primary think tank for developing a cadre of world-class technocrats. It has also helped to deepen democracy in Nigeria and other African countries by providing a forum for learning and sharing ideas.
“You are thus saddled with the responsibility of managing policies and strategies that will shape Nigeria and, indeed, Africa.
“Delta is a state that values continuity, and I have promised Deltans that I will do more for them.”
“Your visit to Delta demonstrates that the state is peaceful, despite what happened on March 14, the Okuama incident.”
“We handled it, and the military exercised considerable restraint. As of today, the military has evacuated Okuama, and we have established an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp there.
“However, that does not imply that those involved will be released. It is just that the innocent people will no longer have problems with the military.
“I want to reassure you that coming to Delta State is a wise decision, and you will be given all of the necessary information.”
Earlier, the team leader, Air Vice Marshal David Solomon, speaking on behalf of the Institute’s Director-General, Prof. Ayo Omotayo, stated that the Institute was founded as a high-level institution with the primary goal of serving as the nation’s premier policy think tank and developing a crop of top-tier leaders with high intellectual capacity.
He praised Governor Oborevwori for maintaining the state’s tempo of sustainable socioeconomic growth and development by picking up where his predecessor left off, and he thanked the state government for the warm reception they have received since their arrival.
