Man Burnt To Death While Escaping Cele Tanker Explosion, LASEMA Reports

An adult male was burned to death while attempting to flee a diesel tanker that exploded at the popular Cele Bus Stop in Lagos.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident in a statement, stating that the tanker carrying diesel lost control while descending the bridge, fell sideways, and exploded.

According to LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the explosion caused damage to three LAWMA PSP trucks and an oncoming Toyota Highlander Jeep.

“An adult male got stuck inside the gutter while attempting to escape as a result of the explosion and was burned,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.

Emergency responders at the incident included the Agency’s response team, LRU Fire unit, Lagos State Fire, and LASAMBUS.

He added that the tanker that was involved in the accident was successfully recovered from the road using the Agency’s heavy-duty equipment, Crane, and Lowbed, restoring road traffic to normal.

“The operation has concluded, and the LRT is returning to base.”
