Gov. Otti Unveils Nine-Man Digital Economy and SMEs Adversary Committee
Dr Alex Chioma Otti of Abia State has appointed a nine-member Advisory Committee on Digital Economy and SMEs to help formulate state policies for their development.
Mr Matthew Ekwuruibe, Commissioner for Digital Economy and SMEs, led the Committee, which was inaugurated at the Government House in Umuahia, the State Capital. Ms. Elizabeth Chijioke served as the Secretary.
Governor Otti, accompanied by his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, encouraged the committee to use its expertise and imagination to advance the digital economy sector.
He urged them to seize the opportunity to work with his administration on innovative ideas to drive Abia’s next wave of digital development.
The Governor tasked the Committee with developing solutions to propel products manufactured in Aba, the state’s commercial hub, into the global market, emphasising the importance of thinking outside the box. He assured them that he would provide them with full support to ensure that their duties were completed satisfactorily.
The committee’s mandate includes several key tasks, such as adapting and implementing the Nigeria Start-Up Act, developing strategies to attract funding and investment for the Digital Economy and SME growth, and facilitating the development of digital taxation schemes to generate revenue from social media and other digital platforms within the state, among other responsibilities.
During his address, the Honourable Commissioner for Digital Economy and SMEs, Hon. Matthew Ekwuruibe, who chairs the Committee, emphasised the Committee’s members’ commitment to leveraging their expertise to develop effective digital economy solutions. He also emphasised the importance of the task at hand.
In response, Mr. Tochukwu Chukwueke, Vice Chairman, expressed gratitude on behalf of the committee for the Governor’s confidence in their ability to contribute to Abia’s development. He pledged their unwavering commitment to ensuring the state’s full potential on the national, continental, and global stages.
The Committee also includes Dr Ugboaja Samuel, Reverend Father Ikenna, Dr. Odikwa Ndubuisi, Nnanna, John, Nwagbara, Mr. Psalms Kalu, and Ojum Sandra.
