Tinubu To Perform Groundbreaking Ceremony Of Projects At National Fire Academy
The National Fire Academy will be unveiled on May 28 when President Bola Tinubu conducts the groundbreaking ceremony for several projects at the school.
The event is one of several planned events to commemorate the current administration’s first anniversary.
Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, revealed this on Thursday in Abuja after inspecting some ongoing projects at the Federal Fire Service’s (FFS) training academy.
He stated that the goal of the new project is to transform the academy into a world-class facility that will retain foreign exchange by reducing foreign training while also training personnel from other countries.
He revealed that some of the projects that would be launched include clinics, worship centres, props centres, sports arenas, lecture halls, hostels, and others.
The Minister stated: “What we are about to do here is arguably the best and most sophisticated fire academy in West Africa, and by the grace of God, we will break ground on May 28, with a one-year completion period.
“There are numerous projects underway here, including the construction of a modern fire academy that can compete with the best in the world. Fire service is not just a career option; it is a mandatory profession that we must promote in our society. The priority of government is to protect lives and property, and one of the most serious threats is fire. So, the Fire Service is more than just firefighting; they are first responders in emergencies, and we believe that the sector’s potential is enormous and has rarely been realised. So, for the next year, we are focused on bringing you the best of the profession. We want to build an academy that will not only meet our local training needs but will also export training, making it a source of pride for Nigeria as a country.
“Many affiliations and collaborations with local and international agencies have already been worked out, and we will be here in a few months so that you can see what we are doing.”
Hon. Danladi Chiya, Chairman of Kwali Area Council, who attended the event with traditional leaders, stated that the council has decided to cede more land to the Fire Academy for the expansion project.
