The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu has stated that the South East Development Commission Bill if passed into law and implemented, will heal wounds caused by the Nigerian Civil War.
He thanked the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, for supporting the Bill’s passage through the third reading.

Speaking at the Senate President’s Homecoming Reception in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State on Friday, Kalu, who also represented the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, Ph.D, stated that if the bill is signed by the President, it will heal the wounds left by the Nigerian civil war.

He said, “We would like to thank you for your support of the South East Development Commission bill. You demonstrated that you are a good leader and in-law by acknowledging that the South East has not received the necessary reconciliation and rehabilitation following the civil war over the last five decades.

“And you believed, like me, that it was a strategic tool. With that bill, we will provide answers to all of the hydra-headed questions that the South Eastern people have. I thank you for bringing much-needed peace to the southeast, as there is hope that the president will sign it. “God bless you, the Akwaibom people, and Nigeria.”

Kalu praised Akpabio for also supporting President Tinubu’s administration, stating that the Senate President’s leadership style has resulted in unprecedented synergy between the Senate and the House.

“I would like to thank you for your support for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Your support is genuine and sincere.

“You have demonstrated that, even though we are three branches of government, we are one government with one national goal.

“Mr Senate President, the executive’s renewed Hope agenda has had an impact on the legislative agenda of the parliament. You have consciously and deliberately ensured that the executive always has the necessary support to achieve their goal. It is no surprise that Nigeria has such strong unity among its various branches of government.

“In parliament, you have been a calming influence. In Akwaibom, you have written your name in gold.

“Many people do not realise that if you let loose, there will be a lot of trouble between the two chambers. We will speak in various tones. Because of your leadership style and partnership spirit, the Senate and the House of Representatives always speak in unison. I appreciate your leadership.

“We would also like to thank you for working with the House to ensure that the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s budget was released on time, as required by the constitution. That is why, today, both the private and public sectors were able to make economic projections with their nation-building plans,” Kalu stated.
