Nigerian Government Declares Wednesday Holiday To Mark Worker’s Day

The Nigerian government has declared Wednesday, May 1, 2024, as a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Workers’ Day celebration.

Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, emphasised the importance of excellence, efficiency, and equity in all aspects of labour, reaffirming President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to cultivating a workplace culture of innovation, productivity, and inclusivity.

Tunji-Ojo, in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, stated: “In alignment with this year’s theme, which focuses on ensuring workplace safety and health in a changing climate, I wish to state that the Federal Government remains steadfast in its resolve to prioritise the safety and well-being of all citizens. Let me reiterate Mr. President’s commitment to creating a work environment in which every employee can thrive and make a meaningful contribution to national development.”

While acknowledging workers’ contributions, the Minister urged for proactive measures to mitigate the negative effects of climate change through collaboration in the implementation of sustainable practices and policies that promote well-being in the workplace and in the development of a nation guided by the principles of integrity, diligence, and compassion.

Tunji-Ojo also urged Nigerians to remain committed to the current administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, wishing workers a joyous celebration.
