Dr. Alex Otti, Governor of Abia State, has received affirmative endorsement from the Labour Party (LP) leadership in the state and 17 local government areas ahead of his first anniversary in office on May 29th.
Rising from an enlarged meeting attended by the Governor, the entire state party hierarchy, all political appointees in the Executive Cabinet, elected members of the National and State Assemblies, and senior stakeholders, the Party unanimously passed a vote of confidence in Governor Otti.
According to Kazie Uko, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Representative Obi Aguocha of the Ikwuano-Umuahia Federal Constituency, who moved the motion to pass the vote of confidence, Governor Otti has made the party proud by exceeding all expectations just 11 months into his four-year tenure.
Hon. Munachim Alozie, the member representing Obingwa-Osisioma-Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency, seconded the motion, which was moved by Aguocha while giving a vote of thanks to conclude the meeting held at the Governor’s residence on Sunday.
Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, proposed the vote, which was unanimously approved.
According to stakeholders, the meeting was called primarily to familiarise the party hierarchy in the state and local government areas with various government appointees, including members of the State Executive Council and local government mayors.
Governor Otti, who was pleasantly surprised by his party leadership’s and other stakeholders’ show of solidarity and confidence, expressed gratitude to God for people taking note of his administration’s “modest” achievements in less than a year in office.
“We must thank God that some modest results are being seen. We could have worked hard, as we have in the last 11 months, without producing anything,” Governor Otti said.
The Governor informed the meeting that he met Abia at a sub-zero level, which is contrary to popular belief that the state is at ground zero.
According to him, it would have been preferable if the administration had met the state at ground zero, “but we were starting from the bottom.” If you have to go from negative to zero, you must work extremely hard.
“Today, everywhere you introduce yourself as an Abian, people treat you with respect, unlike in the past.”
