NSCDC Partners NILDS For Improved Security Advocacy
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has assured the public of stronger collaborations with the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS).
This is due to the need to map out workable measures in response to the country’s security challenges using a non-kinetic approach.
Welcoming the Director General of the Institute to the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja, the Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi mni, OFR, stated that collaboration had become necessary to provide strategies to combat crime in Nigeria.
In his address, the CG expressed confidence in the Institute’s ability, particularly its technical manpower and effective service delivery; he also stated that the NSCDC is willing to collaborate with NILDS to improve the nation’s security architecture.
Dr Audi informed the Director General, in the presence of the agency’s Directors, that upon taking office, his administration implemented a formidable policy to transform the NSCDC into a knowledge-driven agency. As a result of this collaboration, Audi has committed to leveraging the institute’s platform to strengthen and improve the capacity building of NSCDC personnel.
Prof Abubakar Suleiman Olarewaju, Director General of NILDS, had previously hinted that the visit was intended to strengthen collaboration with the NSCDC to address Nigeria’s security concerns.
According to him, not all cases of insecurity necessitate the use of weapons and kinetic approaches.
He also stated that some security issues can be addressed by identifying remote causes through intelligence and informed research, which the institute is capable of providing.
Prof. Olanrewaju, on the other hand, argued that paramilitary agencies, whose duties and responsibilities are critical in providing solutions to security challenges, should be given serious consideration to foster greater achievements similar to those of the military.
He stated that the NLDS was established in 2017 to provide technical services to Nigerian political structures, among other things. The DG stated that the 9th Leadership of the National Assembly has provided the institute with a sufficient parliamentary framework to carry out its duties and that they are doing their best.
Recall that the CG paid a working visit to the Institute this year, which is now being reciprocated to strengthen synergy and improve the working relationship between the two federal government agencies.
