China Improves Facilities At FCT Model Primary School
The Chinese Embassy has upgraded the facilities at a China-assisted Model Primary School in Nyanya, a suburb of Abuja’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as part of its efforts to collaborate with the Nigerian government on improving education.
Speaking at the formal commissioning of the upgraded school facilities, the Chinese Embassy’s Charge D’Affaires, Mr. Zhang Yi, stated that many Chinese companies have invested and collaborated with Nigerian colleagues to build infrastructure projects and support education as part of their corporate social responsibility.
He stated that the upgraded facilities provided by the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) will encourage more companies to invest in and contribute to the country’s educational development, as well as promote cultural exchange between Nigeria and China.
Zhou Hao, Managing Director of CRBC, expressed delight that his company is making such a significant contribution to improving the educational environment at the China-Assisted Model Primary School Nyanya.
He stated, “Under the leadership and support of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, our team took advantage of the school holiday period to replace blackboards for the children, repair the bathrooms, and complete other feasible tasks.”
“In addition to these works, we have brought children’s stationery such as notebooks, pencils, erasers, rulers, and a small amount of sports equipment in the hopes that the children will enjoy them.
“Among all the different peoples of different continents, there is a common ground that transcends ethnicity and nationality: children, who fill the world with hope and brightness. They represent future expectations and aspirations, and they are entitled to a better life.
“That is why we believe that improving children’s educational conditions and environments is a common goal shared by people from all sectors in both China and Nigeria. As a Chinese company operating in Nigeria, we are excited and honoured to contribute to the country’s educational efforts.
Dr. Alhassan Sule, Executive Chairman of the FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB), for his part, stated that only through education can young Nigerians truly realise their potential, while also expressing delight at the school’s facility upgrades through the provision of learning materials.
He praised the Chinese government for investing in education in the FCT, emphasising that in the future, schools could be transformed into smart learning centres.
