Gov Umo Eno Orders Remains Of Late A’Ibom Born Nollywood Artiste Brought Home.
1. Governor Umo Eno has ordered that the remains of Ms Abigail Edith Frederick, an Akwa Ibom-born Nollywood artist who was involved in a tragic boat mishap on the River Niger, be returned home for proper burial.
Ms Frederick, a 24-year-old make-up artist and Theatre Arts graduate died in a boat accident involving some Nollywood actors and other supporting crew members while travelling to a film location.
In a statement signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Ekerete Udoh, and made available to journalists in Uyo on Saturday, Governor Eno stated unequivocally that the government was not informed of the circumstances surrounding her burial.
“His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, has consequently ordered that her body be returned to her family for a proper and decent burial.”
The Governor described the deceased as “the quintessential example of our young people who have heeded our clarion call for them to rise and shine.”
“We are deeply saddened by her painful passing, and on behalf of the Government and people of Akwa Ibom State, we extend our condolences to her family, the Nollywood community, and her friends and colleagues.” He said.
Our correspondent reports that Governor Umo Eno, who paid a condolence visit to the bereaved family in Ikot Udoma, Eket Local Government Area, assured them of his support in this time of grief.
Governor Eno expressed deep emotions, saying:
“This is extremely unfortunate for a young girl, 24 years old, who completed her Youth Service just last year and decided to pursue her passion.
“This reflects our Arise spirit. It demonstrates that our youth are willing to go out there, not begging or waiting for handouts, but to pursue their dreams. It is sad that her life ended in this way.
“Once I was fully briefed, I decided to come here personally with the entire Government to console and encourage the family,” he stated.
