Bayern Munich will be without Serge Gnabry “for the time being” after confirming the winger suffered a hamstring injury in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal.

Gnabry equalised in the 18th minute for the German club but had to be replaced in the 70th minute after picking up a knock. The tie is finely poised at 2-2 ahead of next week’s second leg.

Bayern Munich have issued an update on the fitness of Serge Gnabry after the winger suffered a knock in the thrilling 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the first of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final.

Gnabry equalised for the Bundesliga club in the 18th minute at the Emirates after Bukayo Saka had put the hosts ahead but was replaced in the second half by Raphael Guerreiro.

The 28-year-old held the back of his leg as he was substituted and looked frustrated after what has already been a campaign hindered by injuries.

Thomas Tuchel said in the aftermath that it was unlikely Gnabry would feature in next week’s second leg at the Allianz Arena, which is live on TNT Sports and Discovery+, and the club have now all but confirmed that assessment.

“FC Bayern must do without Serge Gnabry for the time being,” a statement on the club’s website says.

“The winger suffered a muscle strain in his left hamstring in the 2-2 draw at Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-final first leg, as confirmed by a scan by the FC Bayern medical department.”

With the tie evenly poised, Gnabry’s absence will be a blow for Tuchel. The former Gunner has scored five times in all competitions from just 17 appearances this season.

Tuchel, who is set to leave Bayern at the end of the campaign, must also do without Alphonso Davies, with the full-back suspended after picking up another yellow card.

Bayern turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 advantage in a pulsating clash with the Premier League leaders.

Harry Kane continued his fine scoring record against Arsenal when he converted from the spot after Gnabry’s equaliser but Leandro Trossard ensured it was honours even with a fine finish in the 76th minute.
