Palestinian Envoy Accuses Israel Of Concealing Atrocities In Gaza
Mr. Abdullah Shawesh, Palestine’s Ambassador to Nigeria, has accused Israel of scaring people away from Gaza to keep the atrocities that are taking place there hidden.
The Ambassador, who spoke to journalists about the ongoing Israeli siege on Gaza over the weekend, claimed that the Israeli authorities deliberately targeted aid trucks last week.
The envoy, while highlighting some key issues following the attacks, stated that last Monday’s attack was intended to scare those offering assistance to Palestine’s displaced and hungry people.
Shawesh claimed that the attacks on aid vehicles were intended to send a warning signal and that they were carried out on purpose. They want to send a clear message to others not to come to Gaza and provide aid and support to the Palestinian people.
He also claimed that the attack “imposes another restriction on providing aid, as all international agencies have suspended aid.”
He decried the impending hunger and malnutrition caused by a lack of humanitarian access.
The Envoy, quoting the World Health Organisation (WHO), stated that the long-term effects of malnutrition can jeopardise the health and well-being of an entire generation.
He noted that the preliminary toll of Israel’s ongoing war against the Palestinian people over the last 181 days has been 32,916 deaths and 75,494 injuries.
He lamented that two-thirds of the casualties were women and children.
