FRSC Cautions Motorists Over High Speed As Government Re-Opens Third Mainland Bridge
The Lagos Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised motorists plying the newly rehabilitated Third Mainland Bridge to drive with caution and adhere strictly to the required speed limit.
A statement by Olabisi Sonusi, the Superintendent Route Commander, FRSC Public Education Officer, said that the caution was issued to motorists by Mr. Babatunde Farinloye, the Sector Commander, FRSC, Lagos at the re-opening ceremony of the bridge organised by the Federal Ministry of Works on Thursday.
Sonusi stated that Farinloye was represented at the occasion by Lucas Oguntade, the Deputy Corps Commander, FRSC, Lagos. Farinloye told the public that the maximum speed limit for vehicles on the bridge was 80km/hr.
He regretted that immediately after the reopening of the bridge by the Federal Government, there was a crash involving three vehicles inward Iyana Oworo axis, describing it as avoidable.
He reiterated that high speed indeed may thrill the driver, but kills and warned them not to exceed the required speed limit on the bridge.
The statement added: “Motorists are to obey traffic regulations and rules to ensure their safety and that of other road users.”
Farinloye emphasised the need for motorists and other road users to use the FRSC Emergency toll-free number 122 and National Emergency toll-free number 121, in case of a crash or any other occurrences that posed a threat to their safety and security.
He restated FRSC’s commitment to ensuring a safe motoring environment for all and prompt service delivery in case of any emergency.
The FRSC Sector Commander in Lagos, also said that speeding, aggressive, and distracted driving, as well as driving under the influence, remained critical issues that must be collectively addressed.
He commended the Federal Government and Engr. David Umahi, the Minister of Works for the rehabilitation work, which he maintained would guarantee quality.
