Governors Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno and Mai Mala Buni of Yobe attended a grand durbar procession in Maiduguri on Sunday to commemorate the three-day Kaneem Borno International Summit.

The summit brought together prominent leaders from various countries, including Chad, Niger, Sudan, Cameroon, Libya, Benin, and the Central African Republic, among others.

Before Western colonialism, the Kaneem Borno Empire was regarded as one of the most respected and powerful kingdoms. It has survived for over a thousand years and holds a coveted position in the world of civilization.

The summit, which began on Friday and ended on Sunday, also included a special prayer session, traditional horse riding (Garlaf), and the Kaneem Cultural Summit colloquium.

On Friday, several Islamic scholars from various countries attended a prayer session at Shehu of Borno’s palace mosque.

The summit also served as a platform for showcasing the Kaneem Borno region’s rich cultural heritage, including vibrant displays of traditional music, dance, and crafts.

The dignitaries included the Deputy Governor of Borno, Umar Usman Kadafur, the Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan representing Borno Central, Ali Bukar Dalori, the Deputy National Chairman of APC (North), and Usman Baba Alkali, the former Inspector General of Police.

Traditional rulers from Yobe, Bauchi, Nasarawa, and the Sultan of N’Djmena accompanied the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Umar Garbai Elakanemi, who led other Emirs from Borno to the event.
