Assist Police Officers’ Widows, Children– Masari Begs POWA
Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State has begged the President and executives of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) to do the needful for the widows of the police officers and their children to make life better for them after the demise of their breadwinners.
Similarly, he urged the leadership of the association to look into the possibility through the National Assembly, how they can make especially the education of deceased children of the police compulsory by giving them scholarships from primary to university level.
Masari made this call when he received the POWA executives led by its President and wife of the IGP, Hajiya Hajara Alkali Baba on a courtesy visit at the Government House Katsina.
He said the officers face enormous challenges while discharging there day to day statutory responsibilities, “but the attention given is not much compared to the risk and volume of work they face”.
According to him, police are on daily basis been killed all over the country while serving their fatherland, adding that, last week, the Katsina state police command lost three gallant officers.
“If you have to go with the welfare of the police, especially when lives are lost of the police officers, what is given to the deceased family is peanut”, he said.
“Please through your association, see how you can help these women because they are abandoned with children to cater for”.
The Governor advised the association to work through the National Assembly to make the education of the deceased police officers’ children compulsory to enable them to realize their dreams.
On the provision of enough and standard equipment for the police, Masari urged them to make a case to the National Assembly for the availability of such equipment to enable them to fight crimes and criminality in the country.
The Governor who assured Powa of the provision of a piece of land for the establishment of a skills acquisition training centre assured that government is ever ready to do whatever it takes to add value to the police officers in the state.
Earlier, the POWA President and wife of the IGP, Hajiya Hajara Alkali Baba requested for the allocation of a piece of land to enable it to construct a skills acquisition training centre for police wives and widows in the state.
She also commended the Governor and his government for the support been extended to the state police command to enable maintain the relative peace been enjoyed in the state.
